Curry Laksa at Golden Shoe Kopitiam (Oct 9, 08)

It was after gym but i couldn't resist. There was a long queue. As I waited patiently in line, my guilt build and build. Never mind, I seldom have laksa. The last time I had it was probably 2 months ago.


So good... the curry is a bit sweet, creamy and the chilly oil is just right. Not too overwhelming. Generous slices of steamed chicken. Soft and spongy tau pok oozing with the tasty curry and always a few pieces of the boiled potato. I like mine with mee and mee hoon. For $5.50 (big bowl) though a bit pricey, it is definitely worth the sin...

Wild Yeast Bakery

One of my favorite café for sourdough bread. A limited menu that revolves around the trademark sourdough and croissant but quality ingredients to go with your favorite cuppa. Helmed by bassonist and sound engineer turned baker-preneur, Terence Chong is happy that business is doing well despite the lockdown and is looking forward to the recovery. Terence began his sourdough venture as a partner with Tommy Le Baker circa 2013 and went on his own in another location in Jalan SS17 before moving to this quaint neighborhood in Jalan SS22 just before the pandemic in 2020. During my last visit (4 September 2021), the cafe is still not open for dine-in but it should be soon. Nevertheless, business was brisk with customers making a beeline to order take-always. Tapestry - Eggs Benedict & French Toast

Everyone is longing for normalcy as we gladly accept the removal of travel and other restrictions but that is not commonly shared as some are still cautious of the risk of being infected, which I think is fair. A visit to the Asian Heritage Row recently reveals that recovery is no where near, a once popular drinking hole for white collar professionals in the city dotted by popular restaurants all around is a far cry from its hey days. Shuttered stores with signs for sale or rental was a scary sight and tell tale sign of how the businesses were pummelled by the lockdown. Flanked by Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Raja Abdullah, KLites throng this area especially during the weekend for a slice of coffee and breakfast culture.  Before the pandemic, getting a table at the Tapestry would be basically impossible without prior reservation. Overseas Restaurant, Jalan Imbi (May 1, 2009)

Where do you go when you have a bus load of hungry guests coming to town?  What else? Bring them to Overseas Restaurant. Convenient location, delicious food and reasonable prices. I must caution you about reasonable price though, play save and go with the all-time favorites. Stay away from the fish because the price is seasonal and can be very expensive. So, what to order? Advanced booking is required for the char siew and siew yoke (roast pork) and if you would like steamy serving of soup, best to also order in advance. Other favorites include the homemade beancurd with petola (seng kuah), the prawns in special sauce (ask for the normal prawns and not the big head prawns, if you are on a budget). The spinach or "yuen choi" in soup is also good. The "captain" recommended the herbal duck which turned out to be our favorite that night. Pho Hoa, The Curve - 21 Sept 2009

Today is a public holiday in view of the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri and as expected the malls were bustling with people and car parks were full. Well, I was craving for a bowl of steaming noodle soup and Pho Hoa just came to mind naturally. It is situated on the Ground floor between The Curve and Ikano Power Station. It is opposite the courtyard away from Sakae Sushi and Kim Gary. I have had the vermicelli with spring rolls and grilled beef cutlets and the rice with grilled lemon grass chicken but today, I was craving for something soupy. For those who are new to Pho Hoa, pho is vietnamese for rice noodle soup. Here, at Pho Hoa, you get to choose what you like in it. To be more specific, you can choose between being safe or being adventurous. Safe means having only beef brisket and beef balls.
