Ampang is probably the first Korean township in Klang Valley before Solaris and Mont Kiara became a more popular choice for Korean expats. So if you crave for authentic Korean barbecue, I would recommend exploring this area formerly known as One Ampang Avenue. Kim Ga Ne is one of my family’s favorite Korean barbecue joint because on top of the usual pork belly and bulbogi, they serve beef or pig entrails. What’s that? Entrails, also mean internal organs or innards. Yes, not for the fussy diners. One of the must order for me is the rice balls. A simple meal by itself which you can make at home. Hot rice with seaweed, sesame and and sesame oil which you can mould into balls yourself. It’s super yummy. We ordered the beef entrails which is a combo of stomach and tripe. It is chewy but delicious but the tripe which was marinated in chili paste is very spicy. So be warned.   We also ordered the pork shoulder. I was planning to have lunch as it was close to noon but when I asked for a recommendation, our friendly waiter without any hesitation recommended the Big Breakfast. A quick peer across to the neighboring tables and realized that they too subscribed to their friendly waiter's recommendation. Well, I succumbed but longing for something sweet, I ordered the banana pancake as well which was on the menu board for today's special -  of course alongside, the Big Breakfast (what else?). Another item on the gigantic wall-to-wall menu (chalk) board that actually caught my attention was the beef noodle (fried)… Fried beef noodle like our cantonese style stir fry beef kway teow (ngau hor)? The last time I caught up with Kimmy was probably a year ago. Though I thought it was much longer that is when I was in Singapore but negative, we did catch up for a bowl of pork ball noodle at Win Heng Seng, Jalan Imbi last year when she had to attend a conference in town.  Boss and colleague from Singapore was in town for meetings. I agreed to have dinner with them and their preference was western cuisine. So, I googled the internet for "good western restaurants in KL" and a few familiar names popped up. Frangipani, Le Bouchon... some not quite western ones like Top Hat, Bonton and one which I was not quite familiar with, Hakka Republic. I have been to Frangipani and since, I am totally in the dark about Hakka Republic, so I decided to opt for Le Bouchon. I checked out their website and found out that the restaurant was voted by the Tatler magazine for 8 consecutive years from 2003 till 2010 to be the best restaurant in town. It took about half an hour from the office because of usual peak hour traffic even though, Changkat Bukit Bintang is really not that far away from KLCC. My colleague Eugene recommended that I try Angus, the Japanese Steak House when I was in Singapore for a meeting but I didn't get to it. I know there is a branch here, right here in KL at the Pavillion which opened a few months ago. I had 2 hours to spare before catching "Real Steel" starring Hugh Jackman, so I decided to check it out. The menu was quite straight forward. It was either steak, seafood, salad or pasta. Steak came in a a few sizes starting with 150 grams up to 300 grams. They have a dinner set menu which comes with hors d'ouvres, salad, a main of either grilled King Prawns with Cod fish or  Tenderloin Steak with Lamb Rack. We ordered both. The restaurant was quite empty and so service was very brisk and attentive. First came the bread - a hot piece of crusty bread roll served with soft butter. Absolutely delicious! After the disappointing visit to the Desa Park City show gallery, I decided to have brunch at the Mmm Express restaurant at the Waterfront mall. The show gallery was only showcasing the new projects i.e. the Southgate luxury condominium and the Desa Park City Club House. Staff were not really friendly nor helpful. There weren't any show houses to view. That's what happens when demand is too good for a new development. The properties were seriously overpriced. Even though, the developer, Sam Ling does an excellent job with the up-keeping and maintenance of the amenities... it is still too expensive to pay RM1.4m for a ~1400 sq. feet apartment in Malaysia, at least. Mmm Express is under the Sri Melaka group of restaurants. The menu consist of local delights and a la carte nyonya dishes. We ordered the set lunch menu which comes with a main, drink and dessert.
