Pasar malam (Night market) at Taman Midah

Today was such a hectic day for me. Moving my stuff from Singapore into my apartment in KL. Actually it is not really in KL, it is in Damansara Perdana. So, it is really considered as in the PJ area rather. The packers could not deliver and unpack everything within a day (I had 109 boxes). We started yesterday. Furthermore, there was some delays due to a mix-up because I have a separate delivery to my parent's place. Anyway, it was a busy day and I had a sneezing fit due to the dust.

I was starving by end of the day... so, it was great that today is Saturday and the night market is open tonight. You can find almost anything in the night market. Cheap, reasonable quality... Clothes, food stuff, household items, furniture, medicine, vcds, dvds, encyclopedia... For me, what I am interested in most is the food...

So, here's a look at what you can get from the night market....

1. Luk luk (literally translated "dip to cook" or in malay "celup-celup")
- It is a ritual for me, to at least have 1 stick of cockles and 1 stick of pork balls dunk into a generous combination of spicy chilly and peanut sate sauce; Not forgetting 1 stick of century egg with pickled ginger; Price range from RM1-RM2/stick

2. Carrot cake
- Add egg and add chilly... super nice.

3. Salt baked chicken
- Good by itself or served with rice;
4. Apam
- You can find a few type of apams here i.e. the apam balik which is crispy with peanut and corn filling (RM0.80/piece), the peanut apam which is soft and thick and the apam manis which is sweet and has a coconut milk flavor
5. Assam Laksa
- I must say, this is really my reason to be here... the laksa is to die for. Generous amount of ikan kembong, soft rice noodle, perfect assam broth with little chunks of onion and pineapple. So spicy and sour... yummy. RM4/bowl.

6. Sak Kei Ma
- Don't know why the packaging says "Hong Kong Eggs"... maybe it is really made out of Hong Kong eggs? Sak Kei Ma is really sweet... it's like eating a sweet chewy muesli bar; This Ipoh Sak Kei Ma is soft and not too sweet (RM3/packet)

7. Rojak
- Mixed fruits with shrimp paste, prawn crackers, "you tiaw" - flour fritters and lots of peanut; RM3 per small pack

Burp... so nice. I am a happy man tonight.
