Pre-CNY Dinner at Loong Foong

We had an early family reunion dinner this year because my brother who was back from New York, could not stay till Chinese New Year. For everyone's convenience, we chose a restaurant in P.J. (Petaling Jaya). Since, I will be coming from my apartment in Damansara Perdana and my 2 sisters will be going from work (their offices were in Bukit Damansara and P.J. respectively).

Loong Foong (Dragon Phoenix) is a your typical "jie char" coffee shop situated on a corner lot at residential cum light industrial area. It's specialty is the roast duck but for the CNY period, they offered a RM388 9-course dinner menu. Getting there may be a bit of a hassle because you will have to fight the traffic on the Federal Highway to get to Section 14 and then to Sea Park. Alternatively, take the Damansara-Puchong Highway and exit SS17. At the BAT roundabout, go towards Sea Park and Paramount Garden passing the Perodua showroom. Difficult to find for those who are not familiar with P.J. but believe me, it is worth the effort ; P

I was going to go through each dish but I had second thoughts... I will let the pictures tell you the story themselves... for RM388 (exclude drinks), no need to think twice... : )

However, I would briefly point out what I liked about the meal...
1. The shark's fin soup was a fantastic start to the meal - substantial (clearly visible from the photo), taste wise - unique because I think the broth was made up of higher concentration of seafood stock over chicken or pork, unlike the many other shark's fin soup I have tasted in hotel dinners and weddings
2. The duck is succulent and juicy but the skin was not as crispy as I expected. Maybe because we waited too long
3. The golden pumpkin seafood pot - unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to sample a real "Buddha Jump over the Wall" but I had liked to think that this dish provides some resemblance; Generous pieces of scallops, fish maw, chinese mushroom, abalone (well, not so generous with this one), prawns etc.
4. Make sure that you are really hungry - every dish is "X-Large".

P.s. to my Singaporean friends, aiyah "no need calculator la"... really value for money...

(Sorry, forgot to take the photo earlier; The pumpkin is filled with seafood like scallop, sea cucumber, fish maw, abalone etc.)
