Tapestry - Eggs Benedict & French Toast

Everyone is longing for normalcy as we gladly accept the removal of travel and other restrictions but that is not commonly shared as some are still cautious of the risk of being infected, which I think is fair. A visit to the Asian Heritage Row recently reveals that recovery is no where near, a once popular drinking hole for white collar professionals in the city dotted by popular restaurants all around is a far cry from its hey days. Shuttered stores with signs for sale or rental was a scary sight and tell tale sign of how the businesses were pummelled by the lockdown. Flanked by Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Raja Abdullah, KLites throng this area especially during the weekend for a slice of coffee and breakfast culture.

Before the pandemic, getting a table at the Tapestry would be basically impossible without prior reservation. I was pleasantly surprised that I managed to get a table after a 15-minute wait. Still rustic and industrial from the outside and yet, airy and pleasant on the inside. At reduced capacity, the Rise and Shine menu offering Australian inspired lunch with Malaysian flavours and ingredients. Service was definitely better than before. You can almost feel the aura from the staff longing to serve again and eager to welcoming back their customers.

For breakfast, my pick is the Eggs Benedict. Simply delicious - poached eggs with the creamy hollaindaise sauce on bread with the savoury smoky salmon and nutty arugula salad. It's just one of those breakfast favourites that you can just eat forever and never be sick off.

If you prefer something sweet, then definitely go for the French Toast. Light sticks of French toast sitting on granola and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, lightly peppered with icing sugar, edible flowers and gula Melaka syrup. Cantik! So pretty that you feel bad devouring it.

It is serenely nice and comforting to be able to enjoy a delicious and artful breakfast on a Sunday morning which we once upon a time not too long ago taken for granted. [Long sigh] Let us pray that the cases continues to fall and cafés like Tapestry will once again strive.
