Sichuan vermicelli fish sour soup

Recently, I discovered this courtyard food paradise or to be more precise, hotpot village. When it comes to hotpot, Sunway Velocity might come to mind but here’s the twin city, Plaza Arkadia.

Somehow, I came hunting for a hotpot dinner but ended up at 舌尖上的中国 Chinese cooking (Translation: China on the tip of your tongue Chinese cooking). The hotpot restaurant that I wanted to try was full and this other restaurant was also packed with diners but I managed to get a table. It was busier than other restaurants around, so must be good right?
Btw it’s next to
Sekai no Yamachan

The menu consist of different cuisine from all around China. On the first page of the menu leading the way in the Chef’s specialty section was a Stone Cooked Cask Fish. I am Chinese illiterate and I couldn’t tell what exactly is in this dish but it’s on the first page of the menu. Must be good, right? 😆 The waitress was also not very helpful but she did understand when I instructed that I didn’t want it to be too spicy.

I ordered another 2 dishes, a happy vegetable dish (as stated in the menu, don’t know why it is happy but I was certainly not because they served the wrong dish and I had to cancel) and the third dish, Yu-shiang shredded pork.

The stone cooked cask fish was presented in a wooden pail bucket. 😅😱 oh now I get it. The diners next to out table was leaving and they couldn’t help pointing to the wooden bucket giggling. I can guess what they were cackling about.

Anyway, the soup is very appetizing. The fish slices is very fresh and the waitress got it right, not very spicy but it was sour and the bucket is laden with vermicelli, tomatoes, coriander leaves and black fungus. It’s delicious and surely worthy to be on the front page. However, be warned the bucket is enough for the entire village (just kidding). So, make sure you have company when you order this.

The Yu-Shiang shredded pork was even tastier. It’s basically, stir fry shredded pork in a special Sichuan sauce with black fungus, dried chilli and sliced pepper. “Yu-shiang” translated means fragrant fish, which describes the special sauce that is spicy, sour and savory associating to fish umami. I wonder whether the bottle and sell the sauce. It’s delicious and it will go with any stir-fry dishes.

The bill came up to RM138, rice, water included and we had leftover to take-away. Good for two meals. 😎
