Yik Kee, Fresh Water Prawn Noodle

Very nice fresh water prawn noodle from Yik Kee (Jalan Besar, Karak). RM30!!! The prawns are so fresh... Local from Triang, a small town near Temerloh.

Vegetarian culture exists in our society, not merely driven by religion but gradually influenced by society’s desire to be healthier and more environmentally friendly. Overseas Restaurant, Jalan Imbi (May 1, 2009)

Where do you go when you have a bus load of hungry guests coming to town?  What else? Bring them to Overseas Restaurant. Convenient location, delicious food and reasonable prices. I must caution you about reasonable price though, play save and go with the all-time favorites. Stay away from the fish because the price is seasonal and can be very expensive. So, what to order? Advanced booking is required for the char siew and siew yoke (roast pork) and if you would like steamy serving of soup, best to also order in advance. Other favorites include the homemade beancurd with petola (seng kuah), the prawns in special sauce (ask for the normal prawns and not the big head prawns, if you are on a budget). The spinach or "yuen choi" in soup is also good. The "captain" recommended the herbal duck which turned out to be our favorite that night. Bora Asmara, Sg Penchala (7 Mar 2009)

I have heard once upon a time, there is this wonderful restaurant hidden in the midst of the forbidden forest of the Kampung Sungai Penchala. According to the legend, Bora Asmara, was the gateway to the magical Balinese Kingdom of... blah blah blah... Sorry but I can't help it but that's how I felt... the sense and excitement of discovery. You really have to be there yourself to believe it. The moment I reached the entrance, I felt like I was transported back to Ubud in Bali and it was only a 10 minutes drive from Damansara Perdana. I was impressed. As you walk through the balinese swing door entrance, you are greeted by this elevated lobby which unfolds to a courtyard. On your right were several little thatched roof huts for private dining that seats 6-8 and on the left of the courtyard, you can also enjoy your meal indoor. Yum Cha, Chinatown

Yum Cha is located right in the centre of the Singapore Chinatown. Look out for the teapot signboard or just ask around. Try to be there early i.e. around 11am or call up to reserve a table if you are going for brunch during the weekends. I normally, just turn up and the wait is around 10-15 mins max.  Good selection of dim sum. You get all the traditional dim sum offering plus new ones which the chef creates. Good quality - generous size and good ingredients. in other restaurants, sometimes you find that the dim sum are smaller. Reasonably priced. For 2 person, less than $50.  The other thing I really like about having dim sum in Yum Cha is the atmosphere. Not because its location in Chinatown but more so because of the restaurant ambience. The table setting, the push carts, etc. it is somehow less formal compared to a chinese restaurant in a hotel.

Siem Reaping...

Siem Reap 2-5 Aug 2008 The only reason anyone would visit Siem Reap is Angkor Wat (my own personal opinion), which represents the proud heritage of the Khmer empire. One of those place you want to go quickly before it is gone. Well, that was my motivation at least but I am happy to report that there are some restoration and preservation work going on at the moment by the French, Japanese and the Indians (depending on which 'wat' you go to). So, don't worry if you think you are too late... Anyway, Siem Reap is a small town... oh well, I didn't venture very far from the town centre to begin with and the reason was because I stayed in such a wonderful hotel... Hotel De La Paix (pronounced like "de-lah-peh"); Sorry if it sounds like some hokkien vulgarity.
